Silicone rubber mainly undergoes thermal rearrangement and degradation of the main chain under high temperature, sealed and oxygen free conditions, that is, depolymerization reaction, causing the product to become soft (or softened), resulting in the loss of mechanical strength and the loss of use value. Under high-temperature aerobic conditions, the oxidation of polymer side groups mainly occurs, forming alkyl radicals. The coupling reaction of free radicals leads to an increase in the density of sealed chains, causing the product to gradually harden and even crack (known as hardening).But CeO₂ has a thermal stabilizing effect on silicone rubber.
