1 . Descriptions:
PDC, short for Polycrystalline Diamond Compact, represents the use
of advanced diamond material in the manufacture of drill bits that
significantly improve the efficiency and durability of oil
drilling.
One example is the S616 PDC bit, a fixed-head tool that rotates as
a single unit to ensure consistent and reliable performance during
drilling.
When selecting a PDC bit, factors such as cutter density, size, bit
profile and blade type influence its effectiveness in different
drilling conditions.
Our PDC bits meet API standards, ensuring compatibility for
drilling operations. Available in sizes from 3 to 22 inches with 3
to 9 blades, they offer different cutter classifications to suit
specific needs and budgets.
2. Specification:
PDC bits such as the S616 or M616 are specified with a 6-blade
steel or matrix body and a 16mm main cutter. The IADC code

4 . Drill Bit PDC Cutters
At the heart of a drill bit are polycrystalline diamond composite
(PDC) cutters, which engage directly with the rock, using primarily
shearing action for removal. In the demanding environment of a
well, PDC cutters undergo frequent heating and cooling cycles,
which pose significant challenges.
PDC cutters with improved thermal stability and reduced thermal
degradation tend to perform better, resulting in higher rates of
penetration (ROP) and improved wear resistance. Optimising these
cutters is therefore critical to maximising efficiency.
5. PDC Drill Bit Nozzles
PDC drill bit nozzles help to clear the cutting area and cool the
polycrystalline diamond (PDC) cutters.
Effective placement of these nozzles, along with the angle at which
they are set, plays a critical role in the performance of the drill
bit.
Fluid channels also complement nozzle placement to improve cuttings
removal.
6. Steel Body PDC Bits
The steel body of the PDC bit is the opposite of the matrix body.
It can withstand high impact loads but is softer and lacks
protective features. The strength and ductility of steel give steel
bit bodies high impact resistance.
Steel bodies are much stronger than matrix bodies.
An advantage of steel bits is that they can easily be rebuilt a
number of times, as worn or damaged cutting edges can be replaced
relatively easily. This is a particular advantage for operators in
low-cost drilling environments.
Polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) bits differ from roller cones
in that they are one-piece bodies with no moving parts. The fixed
cutters crush the rock, allowing the bit to operate more
efficiently at higher speeds in consolidated formations.
