OASIS passive intake screens provide uninterrupted water withdrawal
from rivers, lakes, and oceans. The combination of our non-plugging
Vee-Wire design and our patented internal flow modifiers provided a
high open area while maintaining the lowest entrance velocity and
pressure drop on the market. Additionally, our passive intake
screens have no submerged moving parts that could break down or
wear out and incorporate the use of the air backwash cleaning
system, guaranteeing minimal maintenance.
Passive intake screen system consists of a wedgewire screen
structure with a conveyance pipeline to the plant facility and a
pumping station. Commonly, the screen structure contains a
semi-automated cleaning system that uses bursts of compressed air.
Passive screen intake systems exclude a large part of the marine
biota by using a relatively small screen aperture and a low inflow
velocity. Screen slot aperture is commonly less than 3 mm and
depends on environmental regulations pertaining to the specific
site location. The range in design intake velocities through the
screen ranges from 10 to 15 cm/s, again depending on local
regulations. The current motion across the screen structure also
sweeps small organisms off the screen and helps exclude them from
entrainment into the inflowing water. The degree of environmental
impact on entrainment of ichthyoplankton is greatly dependent on
the design of the passive intake system and the current velocity.
To provide maximum efficiency, OASIS passive intake screens are
designed and engineered to each unique environment, resulting in a
system which costs less to install, operate and requires less
maintenance. OASIS high capacity passive intake screens are
constructed using non-plugging VeeWire with an internal dual flow
modifier that creates a nearly uniform low flow velocity through
the entire screen surface. This significantly reduces impingement
and entrainment of debris while protecting aquatic life. Passive
screens are designed to meet regulatory requirements for a maximum
slot velocity for both entrainment and impingement. This velocity
is typically 0.15 m/s which is the maximum velocity at which a
juvenile fish can turn around, swim away and not be impinged onto a
passive screen but the screens can be designed to the velocity
requirements of the application. This, combined with a wide range
of slot sizes (typically between 2 - 10 mm) determines our screen
sizing. Furthermore, the large open area and low velocities result
in a very low head loss in all applications, providing low overall
operating costs.

compliant with Section 316(b) of the Clean Water Act, and is a
