Island Urban Design Competition
Overview
This model was commissioned by Aecom and represents the urban
design competition for Dongguan Weiyuan Island. It is a
meticulously crafted 1:1500 scale model of the future urban
planning design. The project is located at the confluence of three
rivers in Dongguan City, an area with an excellent geographical
location. The overall style of the model adopts a simple wood
style, creating a visually layered effect with light gray-blue
water systems, light green vegetation, and a fully wooden base and
buildings. The model is also equipped with 4000K color temperature
building lights and 6000K color temperature water system landscape
lights to emphasize the urban landscape axis. From the initial
sample production to the final project delivery, the entire process
took a total of two weeks. Despite the small scale of 1:1500, the
model maximally reflects the architectural design details and the
entire city's landscape design planning, accurately expressing the
design concept. The model measures 2.5 meters by 2.5 meters, with a
total cost of approximately $15,000.
Project Background
Weiyuan Island Urban Design Competition
Dongguan Weiyuan Island is located at the confluence of three
rivers, boasting an excellent geographical location and significant
development potential. Aecom commissioned us to create this model
to showcase the vision and details of future urban planning design.
Our task was to transform this vision into a finely detailed and
display-worthy model, helping judges and viewers better understand
and appreciate the design proposal.
Challenges in Model Making
Creating a 1:1500 scale model requires extreme precision and
meticulous craftsmanship. To ensure the model accurately conveys
the design concept, we used the most advanced production techniques
and high-quality materials. From the initial sample production to
the final delivery, every step was carefully controlled to ensure
that every detail of the model met the highest standards.
Materials and Techniques
Simple Wood Style
The overall style of the model adopts a simple wood style. The base
and buildings are made of wood, providing a natural texture and
warm tone. This simple style not only enhances the model's
aesthetics but also improves its display effect.
Choice of Color Temperature
To better showcase the urban landscape axis, we used different
color temperatures for the lighting in the model. The building
lights use a 4000K color temperature, providing warm and realistic
lighting effects, while the water system landscape lights use a
6000K color temperature, creating a cool and modern visual effect.
The clever combination of these lights makes the model more vivid
and layered during display.
Vegetation and Water Systems
The vegetation in the model is light green, and the water systems
are light gray-blue. These color choices not only make the model
more beautiful but also enhance its realism. The details of the
vegetation and water systems are meticulously crafted, fully
showcasing the urban landscape design concept and details.
Production Process
Sample Production
Before formal production, we first created a sample to ensure that
all details and design concepts could be accurately expressed in
the model. Sample production is a crucial step. Through repeated
polishing and adjustment of the sample, we ensured the high quality
and high fidelity of the final model.
Production and Delivery
From sample production to project completion and delivery, the
entire process took two weeks. During this time, we strictly
controlled every production stage to ensure that every detail met
the highest standards. The final model not only showcases the
architectural design details but also comprehensively displays the
entire city's landscape design planning, accurately expressing the
design concept.
