What is a Three-Way Catalytic Converter?

A Three-Way Catalytic Converter (TWC), also known as a catalytic purifier, is a critical emissions control device installed in your vehicle’s exhaust system. It reduces up to 90% of harmful pollutants from engine exhaust, converting them into safer gases before release into the atmosphere.

How Does It Work?
The catalytic converter contains a precious metal-coated ceramic or metallic substrate (600 CPSI density) that triggers chemical reactions to neutralize toxic emissions:

Platinum (Pt) oxidizes Hydrocarbons (HC) and Carbon Monoxide (CO) into water vapor (H₂O) and carbon dioxide (CO₂).

Rhodium (Rh) reduces Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) into nitrogen (N₂) and oxygen (O₂).

These reactions activate at 250°C (482°F) and above, ensuring optimal efficiency once the engine warms up.
