Working Principle of Truck Cab Air Spring

(1) Static equilibrium state
When the truck is stationary and the load is evenly distributed, the air spring system supports the weight of the cab through the preset air pressure to keep it level.

The height control valve detects the relative height of the cab and the frame. If the height is normal, the air circuit is closed to maintain the current air pressure.

(2) Dynamic shock absorption process

• When encountering bumps (such as road impact):
• When the wheel moves upward, the frame pushes the air bag to compress, and the air pressure in the bag increases instantly, absorbing the impact energy.
• After compression, the air bag cushions the vibration through the elastic deformation of the air, reducing the impact force transmitted to the cab.
• Then, the air bag slowly rebounds (air pressure is released) to prevent the cab from shaking violently.
• Through continuous bumpy roads:
• The air bag's high-frequency compression-rebound, combined with the shock absorber (if any) to damp vibration, creates a "suspension" effect, significantly reducing the bumpy feeling.

(3) Automatic height adjustment When the load changes (e.g., adding equipment to the cab):

The cab sinks → The height control valve detects the height reduction → The inflation passage opens, the compressor adds air to the airbag → The air pressure increases, and the cab is raised to the set height. When the load decreases: The cab rises → The height control valve triggers the exhaust valve to release excess air → The air pressure decreases, and the cab returns to the equilibrium position.

(4) Dynamic adaptation of air pressure Some advanced systems are equipped with an electronic control unit (ECU) that can adjust the air pressure according to:

• Vehicle speed: Increase the air pressure at high speeds to enhance stability, and decrease the air pressure at low speeds to enhance comfort.
• Road conditions: The sensor identifies bumpy roads and automatically adjusts the airbag hardness (e.g., when a mining vehicle is switched to "off-road mode").
