Shin-Etsu KBM-1003 is a coupling agent (CAS No. 2768-02-7,
molecular weight: 148.200) with functional groups, designed to
enhance interfacial adhesion and mechanical strength between
inorganic and organic materials.
Product Description
As an intermediary, KBM-1003 bonds inorganic materials (e.g.,
glass, metals) to organic polymers (e.g., unsaturated polyester
resins, EPDM/EPM). Its vinyl group makes it highly effective for
surface treatment of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP),
significantly improving composite performance.
Special Properties
- Broad Compatibility: Works with peroxide-crosslinked EPDM,
sulfur-crosslinked EPM, and unsaturated polyester resins.
- High Stability: Boiling point 123°C, refractive index 1.391, and
density 0.97 g/cm³ ensure stability under high-temperature
processing.
Applications
- Composites: Enhances interlaminar adhesion in glass fiber/polymer
composites.
- Plastic Modification: Surface treatment for PE/PP films or
products to improve print/coating adhesion.
