Part 1: Basic Properties
DOWSIL™ Sylgard®184 is a two-part, transparent silicone elastomer
that cures at room temperature or with heat, with a mix ratio of
10:1 (base:curing agent). It offers excellent dielectric
properties, high transparency, and good flame resistance, making it
ideal for electronic encapsulation and protection.
Part 2: Product Description
Sylgard®184 flows easily when mixed and cures into a flexible
elastomer, suitable for filling and encapsulating complex
geometries. The cure process is non-exothermic and unaffected by
sectional thickness or confinement, requiring no post-cure. It is
UV-stable, weather-resistant, and performs reliably within a
temperature range of -45°C to 200°C.
Part 3: Key Features
- Fast Cure: Accelerated by heat (e.g., 10 minutes at 150°C).
- High Transparency: Refractive index ranges from 1.3997 to 1.4225
(wavelength-dependent), enabling post-cure inspection.
- Dielectric Performance: Dielectric strength of 500 V/mil (19
kV/mm), volume resistivity 2.9×10¹⁴ Ω·cm.
- Mechanical Properties: Shore A hardness 43, tensile strength 980
psi (6.7 MPa).
- Compatibility: Avoid contact with sulfur, tin, or other cure
inhibitors.
