A vertical baler is a type of hydraulic baling press machine. "Vertical" refers to its upright design and the orientation in which materials are typically loaded and compressed. It uses hydraulic pressure to compact waste, as opposed to pneumatic (air pressure) systems.

Key Components and How it Works (Working Principle):

1. Loading Chamber: This is the top opening where waste materials (like cardboard, paper, plastic films, PET bottles, etc.) are manually or sometimes automatically fed into the machine.

2. Hydraulic System: This is the core of the baler. It consists of:

   • Hydraulic Pump: Driven by an electric motor, the pump draws hydraulic fluid (oil) from a reservoir.

   • Hydraulic Cylinder(s): The pump forces high-pressure hydraulic fluid into these cylinders, which contain pistons.

   • Piston and Platen (Press Plate): As the hydraulic fluid enters the cylinder, it pushes the piston, which in turn moves a large, strong metal plate called the platen.

3. Compression: Once materials are in the chamber, the hydraulic system activates. The platen descends, applying immense pressure to the waste, compacting it into a dense block. This pressure reduces the material's volume drastically, often by up to 90%.

4. Bale Formation: The compression continues until the desired bale density and size are achieved. Retainer dogs inside the chamber often help to hold the compacted material in place, preventing it from springing back.

5. Tying Mechanism: Once compressed, the bale needs to be secured to maintain its shape. This is typically done manually or semi-automatically with wires or plastic straps that are threaded around the bale.

6. Bale Ejection: After tying, the platen retracts, and the finished bale is ejected from the machine, usually from the front or side, ready for storage or transport.

• Paper products: Cardboard (OCC), newspapers, office paper, magazines.
