BS 476-6 Fire propagation test machine
Product introduce
BS476-6 Flame Spread Index Tester is a professional device used to
evaluate the fire resistance of building materials. It is mainly
tested according to British Standard BS 476-6 and revised version
A1:2009. The instrument simulates the fire source through a tubular
blowtorch and accurately measures the flame spread index (I value)
to determine the flame retardant level of the material. During the
test, the power of the blowtorch (530J/s) must be strictly
controlled and a K-type thermocouple must be used to record the
temperature change to ensure that the data is consistent with the
standard curve. Its test range covers building interior products
such as wall materials, ceiling linings, fire-resistant wood and
textiles. In the result classification, materials with an I value
of ≤12 can be classified as Class 0 flame retardant standards. The
equipment is also associated with other standards in the BS 476
series (such as Part 7 surface spread test) to provide key data
support for the fire safety of building materials.

The full name is "Fire Tests for Building Materials and Elements -
Test Methods for Flame Propagation of Products", which defines the
determination method and evaluation system of the flame spread
index (I value).
BS 476-6 A1:2009:
A revision of the original standard, further clarifying the
technical details of the flame spread performance test, including
the heat output of the blowtorch, power regulation and temperature
difference recording requirements.

Feature
1. Stainless steel box support frame;
2. Calcium silicate board combustion chamber;
3. Three sample holders, wrapped in stainless steel;
4. Two 1000W quartz radiators to provide thermal radiation to the
sample;
5. T-type burner to provide open flame combustion for the sample;
6. Thermocouple continuously records the difference between the
temperature in the chimney and the room temperature;

power according to the test time;
8. The computer automatically processes the data and can print the
test report.
