Functions
(1) Absorb the radiation heat of the high temperature flame or flue
gas in the furnace, and heat the water into saturated steam;
(2) Protect the furnace wall, simplify the structure of the furnace
wall, and reduce the weight of the furnace wall, mainly because the
water wall absorbs the radiant heat in the furnace and reduces the
temperature of the furnace wall;
(3) Absorb the heat in the furnace and cool the flue gas to the
temperature allowed by the furnace outlet, which is beneficial to
reduce the slag formation in the furnace and prevent the slag
formation at the furnace outlet;
(4) The water wall absorbs radiant heat at high temperature in the
furnace, and the heat transfer effect is good, so it can reduce the
boiler steel consumption and the boiler cost.
Product Description
The membrane water walls in a boiler is any furnace wall that is
comprised of refractory and tubes in a water-tube boiler. The tubes
are evenly spaced and generally connect to headers which in turn
are connected back to the main generating bank of the boiler. They
serve a two fold purpose here in that they capture heat that would
otherwise escape to the atmosphere and help heat the water in the
boiler. And they also help keep the refractory cool. This prevents
spalling of the refractory.

Advantages of membrane water walls
(1) Ensure the tightness of the furnace wall and reduce the air
leakage of the combustion chamber.
(2) The combustion chamber is fully water-cooled, which is
conducive to preventing coking in the case of intensified
combustion.
(3) The heat storage capacity is small, the combustion chamber
heats up quickly, and the cooling is also fast, which can shorten
the cooling time of boiler start-up and shutdown.
(4) It is suitable to use the pipe-laying furnace wall, which
greatly reduces the load of the boiler frame and is convenient for
suspension.
(5) Compared with the plain tube, the heat absorption capacity of
the tube is improved.
(6) It improves the degree of pre-assembly of boiler parts, which
is convenient and reduces the installation workload.
Classification
There are three main water wall types: plain tube, membrane, and
spiked tube.
Plain tube water walls are the most basic, just a row of seamless
steel pipes.
Membrane water walls are formed by spot - welding rolled water -
cooled fin tubes, creating a sealed surface. This improves furnace
airtightness, reduces leaks, protects the wall, and simplifies the
structure.
Spiked tube water walls have small pins (20 - 25mm long, 6 - 12mm
in diameter) welded onto the tubes, with chrome ore refractory
plastic applied. They lower heat absorption to raise the combustion
zone temperature, ideal for tough ignition or liquid slag -
discharge furnaces.
Based on layout, there are attached wall and partition wall (double
- sided heating) water walls. Attached walls are embedded in the
furnace and absorb heat on one side, while partition walls split a
large furnace into two sections for double - sided heating.
