Stain Results
Red (or purple) granules found in cytoplasm means positive.
Interpretation may vary with different kinds of cells
in specimen.
Interpretation for Nucleated Erythrocytes:
“ 0 ”:No red granules are found in cytoplasm;
“ + ” : Few sporadic positive granules are found in cytoplasm. They
may also be stained in light red, while
generally shall be stained deeper than normal red cells.
“ 2+ ”:One or two dark granule rings are found in cytoplasm, or
medium red color appears sporadically in
cytoplasm.
“ 3+ ”:Either large granules or small to big“red masses” are found
in cytoplasm.
Interpretation for Lymphocytes:
“ 0 ”:No red granules are found in cytoplasm.
“ + ”:One PAS positive granule circle found in cytoplasm.
“ 2+ ”:Two PAS positive granule circles found in cytoplasm.
“ 3+ ”:Three PAS positive granule circles found in cytoplasm.
“ 4+ ”:Large and red masses found in cytoplasm.
