The gas field is divided into three areas: Zone 0, Zone 1 and Zone 2:

Zone 0: A site where explosive mixtures in an explosive atmosphere occur continuously in the form of gases, vapors or mists or exist for long periods of time.

Zone 1: A site where explosive mixtures of gas, vapour or mist may occur in an explosive atmosphere during normal operation. Zone 1 is a typical application site for explosion-proof electrical equipment.

Zone 2: In normal operation, explosive mixtures in the form of gases, vapors or mists are unlikely to occur in explosive atmospheres, and if present, are only occasional and short-lived locations. Usually, "short time" means that the duration is no more than 2 hours
