As a precision part of the machine tool industry, the ball screw
has high requirements on the size and precision of the ball screw,
and the ball screw after heat treatment is more difficult to
process. In particular, the ball screw bearing housing has a large
finishing allowance and is highly efficient in hard turning
machining.
The hard-working inserts for machining the bearing blocks at both
ends of the ball screw are carbide cutters, ceramic cutters, and
cubic boron nitride inserts. The finishing allowance of the bearing
blocks at both ends of the ball screw is generally 1-2 mm, but the

Halnn Tools has developed a blade for the ball screw housing - the
non-metallic binder cubic boron nitride blade BN-S20 grade. The
BN-S20 grade of cubic boron nitride insert adopts pure ceramic as
the binder CBN sintered body, which has better impact resistance
after high temperature and high pressure synthesis, and adopts
nanometer ultrafine grain, which has better wear resistance. When
turning the bearing blocks at both ends of the ball screw, the
service life is more than 4 times that of the traditional cubic
boron nitride insert. Due to the good impact toughness, the
unilateral knife can reach 7.5mm, which is also suitable for
turning the ball screw thread broken surface.
