AISI A2 • DIN 1.2363 • JIS SKD12 Steel Round Bar and Sheet on Stock

AISI A2 steel is one of the cold work tool steel. It is the better one for SKD11 steel. Because of the a2 steel is made at the base of SKD11 steel. At the routine heat treatment condition, the residual austenite almost all breaks down. The hardness of A2 steel is higher than SKD11 steel. Tempering it at the temperature about 500-520℃, the hardness will up to 60-62HRC.

A2 Steel Chemical Composition:

• Carbon: 0.95%-1.05%
• Silicon: 0.20%-0.40%
• Manganese: 0.40%-0.70%
• Phosphorus: MAX 0.030%
• Sulfur: MAX 0.030%
• Chromium: 4.80%-5.50%
• Vanadium: 0.15%-0.30%
• Molybdenum: 0.90%-1.20%

A2 Steel Heat Treatment:

• Annealing:

Annealing it in the temperature of 845℃-870℃, cooling in the stove untile become 540℃. The hardness will be lower than 248HB.

• Stress Release:

Temperature about 650℃-675℃, cooling in the kiln.

• Tempering:

The way of low-temperature tempering is the key. The temperature is 175 ℃-540℃, then air cooling, the hardness is 61HRC-54HRC.
