►Brief Introduction

Monitoring the ECG produces a continuous waveform of a patient's heart's electrical activity, enabling an accurate assessment of their current physiological state. Only the correct connection of the ECG cable can ensure a satisfactory measurement.

This ECG Cable compatible with EDAN Vital Sign Monitors M3, M3A, iM3, iM50, iM60, iM60, iM70, iM80 Patient monitor.

► Electrode placement for the 5-lead set

Take the American standard for example, see the following figure:

• RA placement: directly below the clavicle and near the right shoulder.
• LA placement: directly below the clavicle and near the left shoulder.
• RL placement: on the right hypogastrium.
• LL placement: on the left hypogastrium.
• V placement: on the chest, the position depends on your required lead selection.

► Using 5-lead ECG Set

You can set the leads on ECG CH1 and ECG CH2 according to your needs. The lead label is displayed on the upper left part of the waveform. You can set them corresponding to any two from I, II, III, AVR, AVL, AVF and V1~V6. If you set both to the same value, one of them will be adjusted to another option automatically.

Notice:

1 If the ECG waveform is inaccurate and the electrodes are tightly connected, try changing the lead.

2 Interference from non-grounded instruments near the patient and ESU interference can cause inaccurate waveforms.

► Preparing the Skin

Thorough skin preparation is very important. The skin is a poor conductor of electricity and frequently creates artifacts that distort the ECG signals. By performing methodical skin preparation, you can greatly reduce the possibility of noise caused by muscle tremor and baseline drift, ensuring high-quality ECG waves. There is natural resistance on the skin surface due to dry, dead epidermal cells, oils and dirt.

To Prepare the Skin

1. Shave hair from electrode sites, if necessary. Excessive hair prevents a good connection.
2. Wash the area thoroughly with soap and water.
3. Dry the skin with a gauze pad to increase capillary blood flow to the tissues and to remove the dead, dry skin cells and oils.

NOTE: If you don’t have enough time for the steps above, you can use pledget to scrub the electrode sites to remove the dead, dry skin cells and oils and increase capillary blood flow to the tissues.
