PPGI is pre-painted galvanised iron, also known as pre-coated
steel, coil coated steel, color coated steel etc., typically with a
hot dip zinc coated steel substrate.
The term is an extension of GI which is a traditional abbreviation
for Galvanized Iron.
PPGI is also used to describe the manufacturing process in which
the coating material is applied on both sides of the strip of steel
substrate in a continuous process. A wide variety of different
coatings can be applied in this process, including paints,
synthetic resins and lacquers.
The advantage of using PPGI is that it can be rolled very thin
(usually 0.3mm or less) and consequently it can be used to create
much more complex shapes and profiles than could be possible with
hot dip galvanised strip. It is also very light weight when
compared with other similar products on the market.
