Precise Formulation
RT/duroid 5880's composition of randomly oriented glass microfibers
within a PTFE matrix lends it isotropic properties critical for
microwave applications. Thanks to Rogers' stringent quality
protocols, each batch retains its exceptionally low and uniform Dk
of 2.2±0.02 from DC to beyond 70GHz.
Machinability and Processing
The material can be quickly and easily cut, drilled, shaped and
stamped without delamination concerns. Its thermal and chemical
resistance also allows use in solvent-based fabrication steps. At
COMET Circuits our engineers leverage these traits to iteratively
prototype tightly-packed designs.
Moisture Resistance
Hygroscopic factors like moisture absorbance and variances in Td
cannot be tolerated at microwave frequencies. RT/duroid 5880's
inherently low moisture pickup of 0.02% and -125ppm/°C stability
affords designers increased confidence even in humidity-prone
environments.
Proven Performance
For one project, we fabricated a 2-layer 70GHz antenna circuit
using RT/duroid 5880. Meeting 5mil feature sizes and IPC specs
first pass, it showed no sign of dielectric shifts during
environmental stress tests from -55°C to 125°C.
