Steel Structure Building Steel Construction Workshop Desperately Needed Production Space For Joinery Workshop
A bespoke joinery and cabinetry business specialising in high quality designs with their in-house manufacturing and installation services. They have an extensive purpose built factory, that is continually growing and developing to keep up with their growing business demands.

Having recently invested in a purpose made machinery shop in 2017, identified the need to further progress their long-standing plans to extend their existing factory.

A new side extension was required to accommodate their need for increased production and storage capacity and make use of the space available at the side of the current building. The construction comprised of an independent hot rolled steel building, erected along the front and side of the existing unit. A key element of the project was that the new building included an integrated mezzanine floor to accommodate a new meeting room.

Forward thinking design features
Careful consideration had to be made to ensure that the staircase the and floor configuration and design maximised the usable height and floor space on both storeys. We also needed to ensure that good access was maintained to seamlessly link their manufacturing processes through into the new space.

To minimise the requirement for any intrusive support columns on the ground floor, the mezzanine structure was supported off the main portal steelwork.

Attention to detail
As a wrap around extension, the initial setting out and junction details were key to making the project a success and to ensure that the new structure blended in with the existing. Paying specific attention to the roof profile and introduction of a bespoke valley gutter.

The building is equipped with insulated cladding on both the roof and walls, providing a stable internal environment, allowing flexibility of use and guarding against condensation.

The skylights flood the workshop with plenty of natural light but also ensure they have plenty of usable wall space inside the factory. We supplied and installed a large aluminium window in the end gable giving the meeting room area on the mezzanine views out into the surrounding countryside.
