    ASTM C518 Thermal Conductivity Tester(also known as Heat Flow Meter Apparatus)is a professional steady-state thermal conductivity testing instrument that fully complies with international standards such as ASTM C518, ISO 8301, EN 12667, and GB/T 10295. It adopts the classic guarded heat flow meter method to accurately measure the thermal conductivity (λ), thermal resistance (R-value), and thermal transmittance of various insulation materials within the range of 0.001–2.0 W/(m·K). The equipment is widely used for testing XPS/EPS boards, PUR/PIR rigid foam, rock wool, glass wool, aerogel panels, VIP vacuum insulation panels, rubber-plastic foam, ceramic fiber boards, composite sandwich panels, and other building thermal insulation materials. With high-precision temperature control, automatic pressure application, and one-click intelligent testing software, it helps manufacturers and laboratories quickly obtain reliable, repeatable, and traceable thermal performance data, making it an essential testing instrument for thermal insulation material R&D, quality control, and certification.

    Product Application


    The ASTM C518 tester is primarily used to measure the steady-state thermal conductivity (including thermal conductivity k-value and thermal resistance R-value) of flat, homogeneous materials. It is suitable for samples typically 5-50 mm thick. The testing scope focuses on building, insulation, and composite materials, accurate to the following individual products (based on standard applicability, not an exhaustive list):


    Insulation foam boards: such as XPS extruded polystyrene boards, EPS molded polystyrene boards, PUR polyurethane foam boards, PIR polyisocyanurate boards.


    Fiberboards and felts: such as fiberglass felt, rock wool boards, mineral wool felt, cellulose fiber boards.


    Rubber and plastic products: such as rubber mats, foam rubber boards, plastic films, thermoplastic elastomer boards.


    Building composite structures: such as sandwich panels (metal-insulation-metal), gypsum boards, vacuum insulation panels (VIP).


    Ceramic and cement products: such as ceramic fiber boards, cement-based insulation boards, concrete-filled insulation.


    Textile and powder materials: such as textile fabric laminates, powder-filled insulation materials (such as calcium silicate powder boards).


    Window and specialty materials: such as window glass composite layers, aerogel boards.


    These products must be fully processed, and the testing environment must be controlled under a standard temperature gradient (typically 10-40°C uniform temperature). Not suitable for liquids, highly thermally conductive metals, or non-homogeneous samples.



    Product Advantages


    1. Hot Surface Heater: High-precision programmable control console for temperature control. Hot surface temperature measurement resolution is 0.01℃.


    2. Cold Surface Heater: Controlled by a constant temperature water tank, fluctuation is less than 0.05 degrees. Cold surface temperature measurement resolution is 0.01℃.


    3. The installation of protective measurement and control devices effectively eliminates the influence of the environment on the test, thereby ensuring the accuracy and repeatability of the test.


    4. The instrument is equipped with automatic pressure and automatic thickness measurement functions. It can detect thermal conductivity under different pressures.



    Technical Parameters


    1. Thermal conductivity range and accuracy: 0.0010~3.0000W/mk (display to 4 decimal places).


    2. Measurement accuracy: ±3%.


    3. Sample size: 300×300mm, thickness not greater than 10-50mm. Special sizes can be customized.


    4. It can test solid and powder materials.


    5. Hot Surface Temperature and Control: Room temperature ~ 100℃ (standard configuration). Higher temperatures, such as 200℃ or 300℃, can be determined according to user requirements. The flat plate heater

    is controlled by a bidirectional thyristor. Accuracy is 0.1°C.


    6. Cold Surface Temperature and Control: 5~90℃ (standard configuration). The cold surface is water-cooled to ensure stable temperature (precision constant temperature water tank, adjustable temperature), accuracy is 0.1°C.


    7. The sample is precisely clamped by a computer. Pressure range is 0-1000N, resolution is 0.1N.


    8. Automatic measurement of sample thickness (0-50 mm). Resolution is 0.001 mm.


    9. The test section is composed of a transparent plexiglass windshield, with a side-opening door. The test process can be observed within the instrument.


    10. Equipped with protective control devices. These effectively eliminate the influence of the environment on the test, ensuring accuracy and repeatability.
