Isoamyl salicylate
What is Isoamyl salicylate?
A colorless liquid with a strong floral aroma. Insoluble in water
and glycerin. It has fixative properties and is used in the
formulation of many types of fragrances. Due to its stability to
alkalis, it is highly suitable for soap fragrances. It is also used
in medicine. It can be used in food. It is prepared by
esterification of isoamyl alcohol and salicylic acid.

As a solvent and solubilizer:
It effectively dissolves other fragrances or oily components,
helping them to disperse evenly in the formulation. It can also act
as a carrier for certain poorly soluble active ingredients,
improving the stability of the formulation.
Fragrance fixative:
It has a slow evaporation rate, slowing down the dissipation of
other highly volatile and short-lasting fragrances, thus prolonging
the overall aroma's persistence.
Providing a mild fragrance:
It possesses a light herbal and subtle sweetness, similar to
orchids or tea, adding a unique aroma to fragrances.
Applications
Fragrances in Daily Chemicals (Core Uses): Commonly used as a
fixative and finishing agent in perfumes and colognes, especially
in perfumes with herbal, spicy, and oriental notes.
In Shampoos, Shower Gels, and Skincare Products: As a base
ingredient in fragrances, it provides a long-lasting, mild scent.
In Cosmetic Formulations (Functional Uses): Due to its good solvent
properties and compatibility with oils, it is often used as a base
ingredient in products such as nail polish and hair oil.
In the Food Industry: Within the limits permitted by regulations,
it can be used as a food flavoring to enhance the flavor of
candies, baked goods, etc.
