Working Principle

The working principle of LNG storage tanks is mainly based on the physical properties of liquefied natural gas and storage requirements. Firstly, the design of the storage tank must be able to withstand extremely low temperatures and high-pressure environments. Secondly, temperature and pressure control systems are usually installed inside the storage tank to ensure the stability and safety of LNG during storage. When LNG needs to be used, the storage tank will transport the liquefied natural gas to the vaporizer through special pipelines and equipment, where it is converted back into gaseous natural gas for users.

LNG storage tanks are containers specifically designed to store liquefied natural gas (LNG) at low temperatures, with the following key parameters:

Structure: LNG storage tanks typically adopt a horizontal, double-cylinder vacuum powder insulation structure. The inner cylinder, which holds LNG, is made of S30408 and uses standard elliptical heads; the outer cylinder, exposed to the atmosphere, is made of Q345R low-alloy steel, and an 8-point support structure is used between the inner and outer cylinders.

Insulation method: The interlayer between the inner and outer cylinders is filled with perlite insulation material and vacuumized, with the pressure in the interlayer of the inner and outer layers being absolute pressure ≤ 5Pa to ensure the daily evaporation rate index.

Safety system: The inner tank is equipped with a safety system consisting of dual safety valves, which protects the storage tank in case of overpressure. The protection of the outer shell under overpressure conditions is achieved through a rupture device.

Classification: According to capacity, they can be divided into small (5~50m³), medium (50~100m³), large (100~1000m³), and extra-large (40000~200000m³); according to structural form, they include single-containment tanks, double-containment tanks, full-containment tanks, and membrane tanks.
