Guar gum is a vegetable gum that can be extracted from the fruit of the carob tree and guar beans. After peeling, the mature guar beans are sent to the grinding plant, where they are separated into endosperm flakes, germ and skin by thermochemical treatment. The germ is often used as animal feed with a high protein content. Endosperm flakes are processed into guar gum at the mill.

Cationic guar gum as a dry strength agent can increase the binding force between the fibers in the paper, so it can improve the strength index based on the binding force, such as breaking length, folding resistance, stiffness, surface wear resistance, surface hair drawing speed, compressive strength and so on.
